FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What’s for lunch?      Lunch is a hit!  We are very blessed to have a BBQ Grillmaster working with us.  Lunch will be two meats (probably pork and chicken) that have been BBQed and pulled/shredded along with some fixin’s.  We also plan on buns/bread to make sandwiches.  We understand if someone has dietary limitations.  If the above mentioned doesn’t work, be prepared to bring food that works for you.  There are restaurants in Garden City, but it is a very busy day.
  2. How do I register my people?   Go to the Home page in the menu and click under “View Details” on the 2024 Midwinter Tournament post.  There are only 4 tickets.  Students that will be competing (with and without lunch) and an adult meal ticket.  There are two reasons why a student would NOT want lunch, 1) He/she wants to bring their own lunch because they do not want what is provided, or 2) They are a competing student that is age 7 or under.  Children 7 and under EAT FREE!  Pretty simple!

Once you have picked your tickets needed, you select the button.  Then, here’s the tricky part………..The very first person attending is the “Primary Attendee” for all of the people you are registering.  It should be an adult that is getting a lunch ticket because that is the first type ticket.  If you are not registering an adult, the first person you put in will be the Primary Attendee and will have the information of everyone you are registering (address, school name, etc.)  NOTE:  You can see what ticket you are registering when you are signing up.

******SPECIAL********    If your name is on a the SignUpGenius Job board that was sent out and helping with the event, you do not need to purchase a meal ticket unless you just want to make the donation to HPHE.  It does help to have you register anyway, so we know who is coming, just don’t pay the meal when you add up what to pay and what not.

******NOTE********:  All payments are considered suggestions.  No one will be denied competition or a meal because they don’t pay.  We don’t even keep records of what people pay.  This is a ministry first, and a fund raiser second.

3.  How do I pay?      When you “check out”, you will pick the “Provide Invoice”.  You can print an invoice and bring it with you with a check for that amount, made out to High Plains Home Educators.  To pay, just bring me a check at the event or mail it to

4.  How does this new Live Fire Pistol Competition Work?         We do not have this competition anymore.

5.  What can students compete in?         Students are automatically enrolled in all academic events.  If they want to “scratch” an event, just tell the room monitor.  There are multiple “fun” events that are happening at the same time (chess, checkers, live fire range, ping pong, etc).  What I tell people is, pick your favorite event, if you get to compete in two events, that is a special bonus.  There are brackets going up every event and you can’t come into the bracket in the middle of competition.  Talk to the judges and see if they can look out for you a little.  I can’t organize everything because there is too many things happening at once.
